A Dress Sample and Fitting Approval Checklist

A sample review should produce clear decisions, not only a general impression that the dress looks good. Agree on the purpose of the sample…

Compare against the agreed brief

Bring the current specification, reference notes and a record of earlier changes. Identify which version is being reviewed. If a material or trim has been substituted for sampling, record that fact so approval of the shape is not mistaken for approval of the final fabric.

Assess fit consistently

Use the agreed wearer or fitting method, intended underlayers and appropriate shoes. Check standing balance, sitting and movement, then record specific observations. Describe where a seam pulls or a hem catches rather than relying on words such as better or more flattering without explanation.

Separate revisions by issue

Photograph and label concerns about measurement, construction, drape and finishing individually. Prioritise changes that affect fit or function before small styling refinements. Collection images such as Virelle Dress or Delarine Dress can help discuss visual direction, but they do not replace an agreed specification for your project.

Record what is and is not approved

Keep a dated version of the agreed comments and ask which changes require another sample. Confirm materials, size coverage, quantities, tolerances and responsibilities separately before a production commitment. For a project enquiry, contact Calissandra Partnerships with your brief and current stage. Sample approval, production availability and commercial terms should be discussed explicitly rather than treated as the same decision.

Frequently asked questions

Does approving one sample approve every size?

No. Agree how the wider size range will be developed and checked before production.

Should feedback be verbal or written?

Discuss it directly, then keep a clear written version with labelled references so both sides work from the same decisions.
